West Bay Beach
West Bay is a small tradtional fishing port with a small harbour and is also the end of the line for Chesil Beach.

Beach Type: Small shingle some sand but quite gritty. The beach is shelved in shallow slopes more so on the larger main beach as shown in the photo above.
Information: Disabled access to this beach is limited because of the shingle, there are no ramps down onto the beach though you can sit near the beach on the smaller beach shown below in the bottom row of pictures. There is Wheelchair Access to both harbour pier walls and the area surrounding the harbour.
Lifeguard: No - Life rings are available, harbourmaster onsite.
Emergency Facilities: None
Pier: Not on the beach but two either side of the harbour.
Safe for Kids: Yes with standard precautions
Facilities: Toilets including radar key disabled, small snack Cafes on both beaches either side of the harbour
Parking: There is pay-and-display car parking,, there is disabled double yellow line parking on the seafront nearest the new pier and a small carpark in front of the new pier, the largest carpark nerest to the sea overlooks the harbour and on the outskirts of the area 5 minutes walk is a large carpark suitable for longstay and coaches.
Public Transport: Bus from Bridport

Fishing: Fishing float and crab lines only off the harbour walls casting is not permitted. Beaches if you are not local try the smaller of the two beaches off the rocks at the far end of the beach. Deep sea Charters available from the harbour. Mackerel season Mid June onwards.



Harbour Master is located near the new main boat slipway for boats (look for the new blocks of flats or drive round to the far side of the harbour. West Bay was the filming location for Harbour Lights with Nick Berry as the harbourmaster. There are plenty of places to buy snacks and meals in the area and some small gift shops. The area is flat and most of the area including the piers can be reached by wheelchair or motorised scooter, there is seating on both piers but it is limited on the older pier. There is also a caravan site at West Bay.
