Beach Type: Sand
Information: The safe sheltered bay is backed  by the  chalk headlands on either side. The gently sloping sands form a good 2km family beach with a promenade, providing all the facilities of a small seaside resort.
Lifeguard: No beach lifeguards but emergency rescue equipment is available. A safe bathing zone provided and there is an RNLI Lifeboat Station in Swanage.
Emergency Facilities: No
Litter and Dogs: The beach is cleaned daily. Dogs are banned from the beach from 1st May to 30th September.
Facilities: Toilets with disabled facilities and several cafés and restaurants. There is a first aid point and a lost child centre.
Activities: Swimming. windsurfing. diving. sailing. sea canoeing. Shore and Charter deepsea fishing. crazy golf. bowls.
Parking: There are several car parks in the area,  long stay is a short walk to the beach and the closes to the steam railway, or there are are alternative carparks at the far end of the beach near the pier, plenty of disabled spaces if you arrive early!
Public Transport: Nearest Mainline train station Wareham, bus service provided to Swanage and nearby Corfe from the train station, there is also a bus route via studland shell beach area into Poole using the toll ferry.
Wildlife and Walks: The Dorset Coast Path extends in both directions from Swanage Bay. passing through beautiful countryside along this section of coast. The path to the north leads to Handfast Point. which provides excellent views of Old Harry Rocks and Poole Bay.

Traditional Steam Railway: Swanage is one of the stops on the steam railway route providing journeys throughout the day to the village of Corfe and its Castle, Corfe Castle.
