Ringstead Beach
Ringstead Bay Beach Dorset (near Weymouth South Dorset)

Beach Type: Shingle Pebbles and small areas of gritty sand, There is a ramp down onto the beach so a wheelchair user could sit at the very edge of the beach. There is a flat green area near the ramp onto the beach which would also be very suitable for views. Please note the lane to the beach from the carpark is not tarmac or concrete but crushed stone pushchairs and wheelchairs can still travel over it avoiding loose stone areas.
Information: 700 yards of beach, once used by smugglers, and overlooked by unspoilt farmland and cliffs. The beach is a short walk along the lane from the car park which charges a daily rate of £4 for cars.
Lifeguard: No there are signs on the beach and a life ring is available to use.
Emergency Facilities: No, nearest lifeboat station in Weymouth, nearest air sea rescue at Portland
Pier: No
Safe for Kids: Yes with caution slightly deeper in places there is also a natural reef visible at low tide
Litter and Dogs: Dogs are permitted throughout the year. Bins are provided in the carpark.
Facilities: Public toilets including disabled and a café/gift/beach shop next to the car park. Short Walk from the beach about 5 minutes.
Activities: Swimming and sailing.
Getting There: From the A353 through Upton village, between Poxwell and Osmington The beach is reached either from the National Trust car park above Southdown Farm which is quite a long walk downhill to the beach or the private car park in Ringstead or by the SW Coast Path.
Parking: There is a National Trust car park which is free - the car park is above Southdown Farm and is a quite a walk up hill from the beach. Also parking in the village daily one fee ticket £4 in 2009 for cars.
Public Transport: None
Walking: Ringstead Bay is on the South West Coastal Path.



Please note part of Ringstead bay is has been classed as a suitable nudist area but it is a long walk from the main beach area!
Other beaches nearby include Redcliff (cliff access only) or Bowleaze a family safe beach which is at the end of Weymouth Bay and overlooks Portland and Weymouth beach.
Ringstead does have a caravan park.
The Hill at Southdown above Ringstead is often used by kite flyers, hand gliders and similar flying craft.
Anglers coming to the area at night note the reef is directly infront and to the right of the ramp leading onto the beach.
