Philosophers Tower
Anthony Ashley Cooper 1st Earl of Shaftsbury Dorset 1621-1683 was the son of Sir John Cooper of Rockbourne in Hampshire and Anne (daughter of Sit Anthony Ashley Bart). He was born on the 22nd of July 1621 at Wimborne St Giles and both of his parents died before his tenth birthday and he inherited estates in Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset.
The philosophers tower is a small folly and can be found near the T junction of the B3081 and B3078 roads the nearest villages being Edmondsham and Wimborne St Gilesand it was built by Anthony Cooper. Unfortunately there is no access to the folly and it can only be viewed from the roadside.
