Nettle Championships
World Stinging Nettle eating Championships - Marshwood Dorset

The bottle Inn is a 16th Century Dorset Wayside Inn, it can be found in the Marshwood Vale in the West of Dorset. It became known as the Bottle Inn by being the first inn in the area to sell beer by the bottle sometime in the 18th Century.
These oddball Championships, started over an argument in the pub, when two farmers argued about the length of each other’s nettles. The Longest Nettle competition was planned and very quickly turned in to the Nettle Eating Championships when one of the farmers pledged to eat any nettle longer than his!
The World Nettle Eating Championships, which now attracts competitors from as far afield as Australia, also offer a chance to learn more about the humble nettle and pick up some great ideas for cooking with this English leaf.
The pub is famous for holding the World Nettle Eating Championships. This annual event has been running for the last 11 years, with this years event taking place on 13th of June 2009. This event has been previously filmed for the TV series River Cottage.
