Lulworth Castle
Lulworth Castle is located in East Lulworth not far form Wool in Dorset and within short driving distance od the famous beaches of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove with its shell shaped beach, fossil forests and stair hole.
The castle was built by Thomas Howard in 1610 as a hunting lodge and built for King James 1st to use for hunting the Purbeck area. In 1641 Humphrey Weld purchased the castle and added a a chapel in 1786.
In 1929 it was gutted by fire and left without a roof in ruins, restororation began with the help of English Heritage in the 1970's and completed in 1998.
Today it is still owned by the Weld family though open to the public and a wide range of events to attend are on offer every year from dragon egg hunts to horse shows even medieval events.
