Clavell Folly Tower
Kimmeridge Tower stands on the hen cliff overlooking the sea of Kimmeridge bay and beach between lulworth and the coastal firing range route to Corfe Castle near Swanage in Dorset. It was built in 1831 by the Rev John Richards who changed his name to Clavell in 1817 when he inherited the Smedmore estate. The tower was originally built as a folly but is now a self catering holiday let available for rent by the landmark trust.
The tower consists of three floors and a basement and it was used as an observatory, and a coastguard lookout point at one time. In 2006 the tower was taken down stone by stone and moved further away from the cliff edge to save it from distruction. There are reputedly 16,272 stones in it's construction.
