Beach Type: Sand/pebbles/Shells
Information: A sand and pebble beach backed by cliffs on one section of the beach. The sand is covered at high tide. Jetskis are often present in the water though the beach is zoned for watersports.
Lifeguard: No
Emergency Facilities: No but the Air Sea Rescue helicopter is based at Portland and the lifeboat station is in Weymouth harbour.
Pier: Yes, small narrow walk on only pier not suitable for children due to having no railings on one side. Can be seen in the photograph above!
Safe for Kids: Yes shallow sandy waters near the pier, the rest of the beach is safe but not so sandy!
Rocky areas: Often a location for Anglers to the left side of the beach, children often rock pool closest to the beach
F acilities:Toilets in the cafe and the amusement arcade, Cafe, Gift Shop, Fish and Chips, Icecreams Bar, Fantasy Island Funfair for young children Amusement arcade all available next to the beach.
Parking: There is pay-and-display car parking. For Cars and Smaller Vans. Disabled bays near the beach and in the lower tarmac carpark. There is also a grassed area that is used for parking and car boot sales.
Public Transport: Regualar bus service to Weymouth Town Centre in the summer months an open topped bus.
Walking: Walk to nearby Roman temple ruins the top of nearby Jordan Hill or the coastal cliff path past Redcliff beach to Osmington, Ringstead beach and beyond (beware of cliff edges)
River Jordan; Flows into the sea to the left of the pier a man made pool has been built to allow a fresh water paddling area for young children.
Mondays during the warmer weather from Easter onwards market and carboot sale held on the green and in the lower car parking area.
Riviera Hotel overlooks the Bowleaze beach and Weymouth bay andWaterside Holiday Park is five minutes walk from the beach.
Weymouth's firework display which is held during the summer on a Monday evening at 9.30pm is clearly visible from this area.
There is a lookout cafe and view points from the top of the hill.
There is a pub in the bowleaze area for anyone staying at Waterside or alternatively you could visit "The Spyglass Inn" at Overcombe which is 0.5 miles from Bowleaze beach.
