The majority  of the Dorset coastline, was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001, due to its geological landforms. The World War II bouncing bomb, was tested at the fleet and relates to the film "The Dambusters".River Cottage was filmed in Dorset promoting local foods. Weymouth is a traditional seaside beach lined with Weymouth Hotels, Bournemouth has miles of golden sands and grand bournemouth hotels,  swanage has a victorian pier  and West Bays shingle beach is the end of Chesils 18 mile long beach. Shell bay at Studland  is a white sand beach backed with sand dunes and part of it is a sign posted nudist beach. Newtons Cove Weymouth, Sandfoots Cove in Weymouth and Chesil Cove in Portland are more popular with local families and are tiny beaches in comparison with the main tourist beaches of Dorset. Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seatown and  Bowleaze cove are popular for fossil collecting. Chesil Beach and the beaches which make up the 18 mile stretch are all popular with anglers. Probably the most well known beaches in Dorset are Chesil Beach, Lulworth Cove the Shell shaped beach and Stair Hole. Durdle Door is the beach with an arch jetting out into the sea.

Dorset Jurassic Coast Fossils

FossilThe Dorset jurassic coast documents the entire Mesozoic era, from Triassic to Cretaceous, and has yielded many important fossils, including the first complete Ichthyosaur and fossilised Jurassic trees. You can book guided fossil tours at Lyme Regis, visit Seatowns shoreline backed by blue lias cliffs rich in ammonites.
